Revit 2010 Update 1 Crash issue and workaround

PROBLEM:

When you try to modify certain elements in your project, Revit gives the message "Display Error -An error has occurred while drawing the contents of this window. This window shall be closed." or "An unrecoverable error has occurred. The program will now be terminated."

You notice that the problem walls crash when the detail level is set to Fine or Medium. It doesn't crash when set to Coarse.

RESOLUTION:

There has been a change request logged on this issue and I have added this case to the change request.

The only workaround I have found for this issue at this point is the one you found to change the Detail Level to Coarse. This issue should be addressed in a future update.

Navigating the Navisworks Navigator in AutoCAD 2010

Entering NWNAVIGATOR at the command line gives the dreaded "Unknown Command" message. This should display a Navisworks viewer inside AutoCAD (or vertical) after you install the Navisworks plug-in.

Here are two reasons the Navigator may not be displayed.

1. AutoCAD 2010 does not ship with the VBA utility which is needed by the Navigator to function. To download and install the VBA utility review my prior post: http://avatechsupport.blogspot.com/2009/04/why-isnt-my-vba-installed-with-autdesk.html
2. The plug-in that installs the Navigator is not supported on a 64-bit system and just won't install/run. Autodesk is aware of this issue.

AutoCAD 2010 Steals a Navisworks 2010 License

When you use NWDOUT of AutoCAD 2010, and your Navisworks 2010 is a network version, then you will consume both your AutoCAD license and a NavisWorks license until the command is finished. It then will release the NavisWorks license. So, if you have 1 network license of NavisWorks and someone is running the program the person trying to use NWDOUT will receive an error.

Autodesk is aware of this issue and it designed/programmed it to work in this fashion, to workaround this issue use the NWCOUT command as it does not consume a NavisWorks license.

This can also apply to other Autodesk products that have the Navisworks plug-in installed.

Flex License Manager is stingy with Revit 2010 licenses.

Revit is unable to reclaim a license that has been taken away by the TIMEOUTALL variable in the Options file.

Situation:
You run Revit 2010 and get a network license. Leave your desk and come back after the TIMEOUTALL period reclaims your Revit license back to the Flex License Manager. At this point you cannot just move the mouse and get another license.

This is a known issue that is being worked on and Autodesk recommends that you remove the TIMEOUTALL variable from the Options file.

As a workaround:
Use the TIMEOUT variable to time out all your features except Revit. This can be a large undertaking depending on how many features you need to time out. If you have a license file that contains the PACKAGE feature there will be 4 lines of code needed just for that license alone.
